What is NL-SWI?

NL-SWI (Natural Locking Standing Wave Imaging) is a patent-pending acoustic measurement method for non-invasive medical imaging. Instead of imposing a frequency on the body, it forms a closed loop that locks onto the natural resonance of the tissue in front of it, so measurement precision is set by timing electronics rather than by the acoustic wavelength.

The design goal is radiation-free, micron-scale precision at depth — including brain imaging through the skull — with non-invasive glucose monitoring (needle-free, through the eyelids), non-invasive stroke detection, and continuous monitoring among its eleven target medical applications. All capability statements describe design targets, not measured results: as of 2026 no NL-SWI device has been built or tested.

Core concepts

Natural locking
The measurement loop adjusts to the target's own resonance instead of forcing a fixed frequency on the body. Precision then comes from timing electronics, not from the acoustic wavelength.
Standing wave
A wave that appears to stand in place, formed by interference between an outgoing wave and its reflection at a boundary. The loop holds a stable lock on this pattern.
Precision at depth
Frequency is chosen for reach, not for resolution. A wave low enough to pass through bone is designed to keep its precision through the skull, where conventional ultrasound loses the picture.
Precision that grows with time
The loop counts thousands of uninterrupted cycles. Ten times longer is designed to mean ten times finer, not the threefold gain of conventional averaging.
Transcranial / through the skull
Reaching and measuring inside the brain without ionizing radiation, a contrast agent, or an implanted acoustic window.
Continuous monitoring
With no ionizing radiation there is no dose limit, so the same spot can be measured for minutes, hours, or continuously — in a clinic, an ambulance, or at home.

Table compares categories, for orientation only. NL-SWI figures are design targets; no NL-SWI device has been built or tested. Current IP: pending U.S. provisional application No. 63/996,286 (filed March 2026). The founder's earlier patents (US 5,987,983; US 7,389,136) are historical and have expired.

Common questions

Is NL-SWI available as a product today?

No. Offner Technologies is at the pre-prototype stage. A U.S. patent application (No. 63/996,286) was filed in March 2026 and is pending, and no device has been built or tested yet.

How is it different from conventional ultrasound?

Ultrasound trades depth for detail: low frequencies reach deep but see coarsely. NL-SWI is designed to choose frequency for reach alone and keep micron-scale precision at any depth, including through the skull.

Who is it for?

Offner Technologies is seeking a strategic partner — product development and engineering, medical-device manufacturing, regulatory and clinical validation, or distribution — to build the first devices on the NL-SWI core.
